Do you have a bucket list of exotic places you would like to see before…well you know… you kick the bucket? Unfortunately, age doesn’t have anything to do with when we kick the bucket; so perhaps we should celebrate every milestone with gusto regardless of age. That’s what myself and a group of friends decided to do, commemorate a milestone birthday together. Instead of selecting an all-inclusive resort, we opted for a luxury stay at a five- bedroom, five bath villa in the Riviera Maya. The Villa, Casa Prieto, was gorgeous and upon arrival, we were greeted with a full staff, concierge, private pool and rooftop hot tub. Music played in the background, and everyone was offered a cold drink.

The coolness didn’t stop there; the inside kitchen provided vaulted ceilings that went to the roof of the house and a turtle pond with eleven curious turtles who called it home. The downstairs offered an indoor spa room with a massage table, steam room, and Jacuzzi. In-villa massages were included in the experience, as well as a chef for two meals a day, maid service and an all-around great guy named Tomas, who carried umbrellas and chairs to the beach. The staff assisted with any issues or questions and then disappeared for privacy. Villa guest, Ed Brockmeyer summed it up perfectly, as he smiled and asked, “So, this is what it feels like to be a Rock Star?”

Even the owner of the property went the extra mile, greeting us upon arrival, provided sightseeing tips and answering questions. Besides the initial Luxury Retreats concierge, Meghan, who helped the pre-planning, an onsite concierge was readily available and assisted in planning a special birthday surprise celebration complete with singing Mariachi’s who performed for a private villa performance. The special memories made on this vacation, being together with friends and discovering life, will be treasured forever, but so will the way we spend future holidays. Our vacation planning will be altered forever.
