Fright Night ideas (and a free giveaway)

Happy Halloween! Follow me as I read, watch, write and travel around the world. I review travel destinations, books and what to watch or stream. In the spirit of Halloween, here's an old ghost town to visit, a book that will keep you up at night and a scary movie that reminds me of the good old Halloween horror flicks. (Terror without all the violence, language and gore (its rated PG-13)..

Film: Have you seen The Skeleton Key?

This 2005 supernatural film stars Kate Hudson and even with it's PG-13 rating it will keep you jumping. It's a scary who-done-it set in New Orleans. It's just right for this time of year. Available on Netflix and Amazon. (If you want an old R-rated scary film try Copycat (1995) with Sigourney Weaver, Dermot Mulroney, Holly Hunter and Harry Connick Jr.).

Travel: Plan a trip to Jerome, AZ. The historic town of Jerome, Arizona dates back to 1876. Famous for its large scale copper and gold mining, it was once alive with miners, cowboys, and all the ruthless characters fast money brings in. When the gold and copper dried up in the 1950's, people abandoned the town. Once know as the "Wickedest Town in the West" there are many untold deaths and stories.

Jerome was a ghost town from the late 1950's until the 1970's when an artist community discovered it. Today, Jerome is a thriving artist colony and a unique hillside community at 5200 ft. between Prescott and Sedona. If you haven't been here, it's worth a visit. Stay at The Ghost City Inn or The Hotel Grand (the old hospital) for a scare and a story. Try a Ghost Tour given by Tours of Jerome.

Words: There is an author, when you say his name, images of horror and darkness appear.Well, at least in my mind. The first few times I tried to read The Stand I started having nightmares, the same ones in the book. Yes, this is the scariest novel I have ever read, it pits good against evil, and is a work of art. The Stand by Stephen King is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi horror novel that will take you into another world. Start reading it tonight.
