Watch this-and discover the secret world of Cenotes

What is a cenote? An incredibly beautiful underwater cave. The word cenote originates from the Maya who discovered them centuries ago and named them "dznot"-- the Spaniards translated it to "cenote" which means, "a deep thing."

When I first encountered a cenote in the Yucatan jungle, I was mesmerized by the magical beauty and luminescent color of the water. My debut fiction novel, A Deep Thing, was born in the Yucatan jungle. The setting of, A Deep Thing, will lead you underwater to cenotes in the Yucatan and through the woods of Camp David.

To get a closer look at the real life Yucatan cenotes which the novel, A Deep Thing, is based on, watch this film by GoPro on YouTube. According to Go Pro, the YouTube film,"Place of Fear: Searching the Maya Underworld" was shot 100% on the HERO4® camera from Go Pro. Go Pro writes this description on YouTube, "On their mission to discover the world's biggest cave, veteran cave explorer Robbie Schmittner and his partner Toddy Waelde pledge to protect this Mecca of diving beneath the Yucatan. Robbie warns against the destructive forces affecting this area. Toddy discovers an unbroken Maya pot that could be thousands of years old." The video was posted on Nov, 29 2016 and has three parts. I hope there are many more to come-- the video is amazing.

If you want to see it, feel it and touch it, get scuba certified (I recommend cave or cavern certification) and plan a vacation to Tulum or Playa Del Carmen. Schedule an epic cave dive in a cenote (my choice Dos Ojos) and contact one of the many dive shops. On my cave dive, I used Diving Cenotes Tulum, Paulo is the owner and was my guide.

Where to stay? There are hundreds of choices from Playa De Carmen, Puerto Morelas or Tulum. A great deal for a nice room is Palms Tulum Luxury Hotel, it's five minutes from the beach with great accomodations and service, at an inexpensive price. However, if you really want to splurge and be wowed, check out La Zebra. This chic boutique hotel is gorgeous with an a view to die for and outstanding restaraunt.

Watch this YouTube video before you read the suspense novel, A Deep Thing. (If you can, view it on your television or the largest screen possible!)

If you've never heard of a cenote, this one's for you.
