Movie Night: What to watch

I call Movie Night! In Arizona, it is a WINDY weekend with gusts up to 45 mph. Great day to fly a kite or curl up with a soft fuzzy blanket and watch a few flicks. I've just returned from the Las Vegas Writers Conference (a fantastic time!) so a weekend at home sounds delicious. What's the weather like in your part of the world?

Need some help on what to watch on a movie night? Below I've listed my reviews of the latest redbox rentals, netflix and amazon streaming movies.

Based on the true story of two young men, David Packouz and Efraim Diveroli, amatuers who became international arms dealer and won a $300 million contract from the Pentagon. It's a comedy/crime/drama and well done. I love anything based on a true story and Jonah Hill and Miles Teller do an outstanding acting job. This movie was the surprise of the week for me, I didn't think I would enjoy it so much, but I did. 4 stars

Okay, this is the deal with this film-- it's a PG-13 thriller which I like (cuts down on gore), and it reminds me of an old fashioned scary movie. You know the ones that make you scream at the screen: "turn the light on", "stab him again", " don't go down to the basement". My sister recommened this film, and it stars Naomi Watts from "The Ring", so, I should know better. But, if you are looking for a classic Friday night scary date movie, this might be the one. I almost hate to say that I enjoyed it, but I did. 3 stars

If you enjoyed Bryan Cranston in Breaking Bad, you will enjoy his portrayal of a father meeting his daughter's older, tech-savy, tattooed boyfriend, played by James Franco. Director and co-writer John Hamburg will make you laugh out loud. Fair warning-- this film has strong language, but it's a classic comedy movie. Fans will be spouting lines from this movie for centuries and looking for the new age toilets featured in the film. Great funny rental. 4 stars

Loved this film! Based on a narrative non-ficiton book about three African-American women who excelled in mathematics in the 1960's. Female genuis's in a world of men at NASA. These women were major contributors to the NASA program and this is their story. Kevin Costner does a great job portraying Al Harrison of Nasa and outstanding performances by : Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monáe. This is an inspiring story worth your time. 5 stars

Sci-fi lovers should enjoy this. I did, but then I'm one of thos strange people who would think about freezing my body for 100 years to wake up and help the future. Would you? Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt, and Michael Sheen in a futuristic way. I enjoyed this film and the moral dilemas it presented. As a 'what if' sci-fi lover I rate it 4.5 stars.

Here's my clean family film. It's been a long time since I have watched Eddie Murphy on screen. This story touched my heart about a special friendship that develops when a mother with cancer and her little girl hire a unique cook- Henry Joseph Church.

So, there's my picks, let me know your thoughts and if you agree!
