Get Ready for Adventure: Hot Travel Deals, Streaming Recommendations, and Must-Read Books this Month

Happy September! Can you believe that 9/11 was 22 years ago? If that seems like a short time to you, then you can probably understand why my blog hasn’t been updated in a long time. I wish I could say that it was because I was on a year-long world tour to see every continent in the world (which is still on my bucket list). But basically, I was busy with life, writing, and creating a new home in Mexico. Now, I am back with a monthly email to give you the best of my favorite things in words, travel, and film. In this blog post, I’ll share my book recommendations for the month, my travel recommendations and deals, and what to stream on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Paramount, etc.

Words:

1. The Measure: As a writer, I wish I would’ve thought of this premise. I love it. I’m not finished reading it yet, but I have to recommend it because it’s a great conversation starter. Imagine a world where everyone wakes up one morning to find a small wooden box on their doorstep. The box contains a string, and the length of the string represents how long that person will live. What would you do if you knew how long you had left? This is the premise of Nikki Erlick's thought-provoking novel, The Measure. The Measure is a beautifully written and moving novel that will stay with you long after you finish reading it. It is a must-read for anyone who has ever wondered about the meaning of life and death.

2. The Sparkling Adventures of Glowy the Fish: Yes, I have a new children’s series out, and the first three books have been released on Amazon & Barnes and Noble. If you would like a free copy of book 2, click on this link and you can have a FREE copy on Amazon of the second book,

. Try reading it to a child that you know, and dive deep under the Sea of Cortez. It’s free on September 17th, 18th, and 19th.

Travel:

1. Travel Zoo - $499 Costa Rica 6-night trip w/flights & upgraded hotels: This amazing deal includes round-trip flights from major US cities, 6 nights in 4-star hotels, and all transfers. You'll get to explore Costa Rica's stunning beaches, rainforests, and volcanoes.

2. $219 Napa 4-star riverfront inn + bottle of wine, 40% off: This deal is perfect for a romantic getaway or a weekend with friends. You'll stay in a beautiful riverfront inn and receive a bottle of wine upon arrival. The inn is located in the heart of Napa Valley, so you'll be close to all the best wineries and restaurants.

Film:

1. Black Bird (Apple TV): Black Bird is a gripping and suspenseful crime drama miniseries based on the 2010 autobiographical novel, In with the Devil. It follows the story of Jimmy Keene, a former high school football hero and policeman’s son who is given the choice of entering a maximum-security prison for the criminally insane or serving his full sentence in a minimum-security prison. Keene must elicit a confession from suspected serial killer Larry Hall to save himself and the victims of Hall’s crimes.

2. The Last Thing He Told Me (Apple TV): This suspenseful and well-acted series follows Hannah Hall as she unravels the mystery of her husband’s disappearance while protecting his teenage daughter. Based on a book, under the same name, and worth checking out.

3. Wilderness (Amazon Prime): Wilderness is a psychological thriller set in the remote wilderness of the Pacific Northwest. It follows Liv, a young woman who embarks on a road trip with her husband after he cheats on her, only to discover that he is not who he seems.

4. Joe Pickett (Paramount): Joe Pickett is a neo-Western crime drama series based on the character created by novelist C.J. Box. It follows the life of Wyoming-based game warden Joe Pickett and his family in the small town of Saddlestring and the surrounding wilderness of Yellowstone National Park.
