Holiday picks: TV, books, travel

It's that time of the year and if you’re like me you might be scrambling for ideas for presents. You might also find yourself with some time to relax and need a few suggestions on what to stream, read or how to find a smokin hot travel deal.

If you're looking for some advice, here's a few good ones:

What to watch that's good:

  1. Homecoming: Amazon Prime- One season of this psychological thriller starring Julia Roberts, Stephen James & Bobby Cannavale. If you like Hitchcock, this will draw you in. I loved it. Created from a hit podcast of the same name. Episodes are less than 30 minutes, so you can fit them in.

  2. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2: Amazon Prime- If you didn’t watch the first season, I highly recommend it. The second season start this week(12/5). Winner of 8 Emmy's and sure to make you laugh.

  3. The Christmas Chronicles: Netflix- Finally a new holiday movie for the whole family. How can you go wrong with Kurt Russell as Santa Claus? Great funny & heartwarming story. Save this for Christmas Eve.

What to read or give as a present:

  1. Every Breath by Nicholas Sparks- A brand new fiction story loosely inspired by true events. A love story to melt your heart. #kindred spirits. Makes a great gift.

  2. Unicorns are Real: Story Notebook- A great holiday gift for grades 3-6. An activity that will help a kid produce a first book. A keepsake activity to last forever. I’m giving this as presents to creative kids. It’s time to help kids appreciate old school and remember how to write with pen and paper. $7.99

  3. The Selection by Kiera Cass- this is a first book of a series. It’s Cinderella meets Hunger Games and the Bachelor. Really enjoyed this easy read. First book is Free on KU or pick it up at your library. Teens, Young adults and anyone who likes romance will love this. The box collection would make a fun gift for a reader.

Hot travel deals make an awesome travel present:

  1. Travel Zoo has this incredible deal: $419 per person– Mexican Riviera 7-Night Cruise plus Kids Sail Free, Princess Cruises via Prestige Cruises . You must book by December 19th but can go January or February, depart out of Los Angeles. The deal includes food, cabin and fun. I don’t think you can stay home for 7 nights with all your food and drink for this price. They even have a singing show on board, modeled after the Voice. Leaves out of LA. Ports: Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta What a hot present!

  2. Groupon- Go to Vegas. The Flamingo name has been around forever, and with newly renovated rooms, they have a Groupon Getaway to gamble on. Starting at $35 a night or $ 60 a night with a $25 room credit. There is a $35 resort fee, however this casino is in the Center of the Strip, adjacent to The LINQ Promenade and the High Roller – the world’s tallest observation wheel. The newly renovated Flamingo King and Flamingo Double-Queen rooms include a 55-inch HD TV, rain shower, and sleek furniture.

  3. Travel Zoo Italy Deal this includes air fare! This is a fantastic deal for 4 people traveling together. $999 a person for flight to Italy, 6 nights accomodations and rental car. Here’s the deal: Few words evoke the same imagination as "Tuscan farmhouse" -- lush rolling hillside dotted by evergreen cypress trees, blanketed by blue skies. With this offer from Great Value Vacations, it's easy to picture yourself (and family or friends) there, too. For $999 per person, based on four people traveling together, this offer includes:
